Field-based STEM

I am part of “Field-based STEM”, which supports schools in PLD all over New Zealand, providing ‘specialist’ science / technology facilitators. Schools can apply for PLD funding from the Ministry of Education, and once PLD hours are allocated any work done in the school has no additional costs!

If you think I can help with some PLD, I can come to your school or school camp, and run sessions on any Marine related topic(s) including Māori Fishing technology, Pacific Navigation (which fit the Māturanga Māori and History areas), Rocky and/or sandy shores, marine food chains, seabirds, sharks, whales and dolphins etc. If it lives in the Ocean, we have things to talk about!

I run teacher-focused workshops covering tips and techniques that I’ve found work in inspiring students on all things marine. Workshops might include;

  • Puppet making and creating simple teaching resource ideas,
  • Designing and using games to teach science by subterfuge,
  • Or spending a day out on a boat, “Learning About the Ocean, from On the Ocean!”

PLD funding begins with a short questionnaire. If you need some help, get hold of Tony Jones (who is the whizz on all this funding application stuff!) at fieldbasedstem@gmail.com and he’ll steer you through this process.

If you have any questions that doesn’t relate to the funding application itself then give me a call at 021 131 8334 or email richard@marinemaestro.nz
